About Color Connection
Designed for Calm, Connection, and Dignity in Dementia Care
Color Connection creates dementia-informed coloring experiences that support emotional well-being for people living with dementia and the caregivers who walk beside them..
Dementia care is not about doing more. It’s about finding moments of calm, presence, and connection — even when words are hard to find.

Why Color Connection Exists
Color Connection was created to help caregivers and loved ones find calm, dignity, and a sense of belonging through creative expression.
Too often, dementia care activities are either overly complex, overly simplistic, or emotionally disconnecting. Color Connection was designed to bridge that gap — offering experiences that feel respectful, soothing, and emotionally grounding.
Our goal is to support moments of calm, connection, and dignity for people living with dementia and those who care for them.
How Color Connection Is Designed
Color Connection is guided by four core principles that shape every page, illustration, and companion guide we create.
These pillars reflect what we believe matters most in dementia care: reducing overwhelm, supporting emotional safety, honoring the caregiver–loved one relationship, and grounding creative experiences in person-centered best practices.
Together, they form the foundation of the Color Connection approach.
Dementia-Informed Design
Every page uses bold outlines, uncluttered imagery, and familiar forms — supporting visual processing and reducing overwhelm.
Emotion-First Approach
Affirmations are designed to soothe anxiety, reinforce identity, and create a sense of safety in the present moment.
Caregiver-Supported Use
Companion Guides provide prompts, sensory cues, and conversation starters to support meaningful shared moments.
Grounded in Best Practices
Informed by guidance from leading dementia organizations and person-centered care principles.
How these principles take shape
Dementia-Informed Design
Every Color Connection page is designed with the cognitive and sensory changes of dementia in mind.
We use clear outlines, uncluttered imagery, and familiar forms to reduce visual overwhelm and support recognition. Scenes are intentionally simple, avoiding unnecessary detail that can cause confusion or fatigue.
-
Bold, high-contrast line work for visual clarity
-
Familiar scenes that support recognition and comfort
-
Progressive simplicity to meet people where they are
Design choices are guided by one principle: the activity should feel safe, approachable, and emotionally grounding — regardless of cognitive ability or stage of dementia.
Emotional First Approach
Every Color Connection experience begins with emotional safety.
Rather than focusing on outcomes, completion, or cognitive performance, our designs prioritize comfort, reassurance, and a sense of being present in the moment.
Affirmations and imagery are chosen to soothe anxiety, reinforce identity, and create a gentle emotional anchor. The goal is not to “do it right,” but to feel safe, calm, and supported — wherever the person is that day.
Caregiver-Supported Use
Color Connection is designed to support shared moments without adding pressure or responsibility.
Caregivers are not asked to instruct, correct, or guide the experience.
Companion Guides offer optional prompts, sensory cues, and simple conversation starters that can be used — or set aside — depending on the moment. Whether coloring together or sitting quietly alongside a loved one, the design allows connection to unfold naturally, without expectation.
Grounded in Best Practices
Color Connection is informed by person-centered dementia care principles and established best practices in emotional well-being and engagement.
Design decisions are guided by what supports dignity, reduces distress, and honors the lived experience of people with dementia.
Rather than following trends or generic activity models, we align our work with guidance from dementia care organizations and research-informed approaches that emphasize respect, autonomy, and emotional presence.

A Personal Perspective
Color Connection was not created from personal loss, but from close observation, community work with seniors, and friendships touched by dementia and Alzheimer’s.
I witnessed the frustration that comes from caring deeply when nothing can stop the decline — and the quiet search for something meaningful to do. Not to fix. Not to improve. But simply to be present in a way that feels calm, respectful, and supportive.
I saw how often well-intentioned activities unintentionally added pressure or confusion, and how small design choices could either overwhelm or soothe. I knew I could not speak for those living with dementia. But I could listen, observe, and design with care.
Color Connection was created from that place — to support moments that still matter, with humility, intention, and deep respect for the people and caregivers walking this path every day.

Designed to Reduce Overwhelm
Color Connection is not about doing more.
It’s about creating moments of calm, presence, and connection — even when words are hard to find.
Whether used independently or shared with a caregiver, each page is designed to meet people where they are, with dignity, simplicity, and care.
